This course allows pupils to further develop their communication skills in English while achieving three units which include: Scotland in Focus (the mandatory Scottish Studies unit); Problem Solving and Working with Others.

The class will choose to study a particular area of Scotland which could lead to them organising an event (this will facilitate the Problem Solving and Working with Others units). For example, they might research tourist attractions, culture, hobbies etc. Pupils will choose an individual focus within the agreed topic (the individual focus must be new to the pupil) which they will then research. Pupils will work on an essay and give an individual talk to the class on their chosen topic. Pupils then have to choose which event they wish to undertake and as a team they must solve any problems, for example, financing the event, to make it a success.

Pupils will record their progress in a log-book.

In addition, pupils will continue to study literature and develop writing in other genres.
