Drama
Welcome to the Drama Department. The Department has 3 members of staff – Audrey Bowman (full time) , Lisa Grindall (part time – Thursday and Friday’s) and Clare Kelly (PSL and Drama Teacher)
Drama at St. Thomas of Aquin’s is currently taught from S1 – S4. In S1 and S2 students have 1 period of drama each week with students then opting from S3 (BGE) whether to continue with the subject. S3 students have 2 periods weekly which increases to 4 periods in S4 at N4/5 level.
It is hoped in the near future we will again be able to offer higher Drama and possibly the Advanced Higher course.
Drama is a very popular subject with SQA exam results reflecting the commitment, creativity and positive relationships between staff and students. 2019 exam results were excellent with a 100% pass rate at both National 5 and Higher level, the vast majority of which were A grades.
The department also offers a wealth of other activities to enhance students experiences of drama including extended curricular activities, visits to a range of theatre performances and links with the creative industries both nationally and in a wider UK context. We take full advantage of our central location with regular visits to the theatre, attendance at local theatre events such as “careers in theatre” days and “page to stage” projects organised by Edinburgh’s professional theatre network. St. Thomas drama students benefit from our strong links with casting agencies: they are often presented with opportunities to audition for acting roles in theatre, tv and film projects.
