Broad General Education (BGE)

In the Broad General Education (BGE) pupils build on prior learning from primary school and teachers make evidence-based judgements on their curriculum level.  At key milestones, assessments should provide reliable evidence which can be used to report on the progress of children and young people. This involves ensuring that we have shared expectations for standards to be achieved and have robust arrangements for moderation across stages and the curriculum.

In this section we at St Thomas of Aquin’s High School seek to provide clear guidance for pupils and parents on achievement of a curriculum level.  Using the format provided by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) we have created our own ‘Understanding Standards’ section, which you can use to see examples of pupil work which show evidence of achievement at different curriculum levels.

This document, developed by Mr Murray and Mr Rizza in the PE Department, shows how BGE Levels are tracked and monitored across S1-3 at St Thomas’. BGE Assessment Levels 2023-24
