On Tuesday the 23rd January, the St. Thomas of Aquin’s S2 Go4Set team put in a valiant effort at the regional finals. Their research project and model was to design a self-sustaining school titled “My School is an Island”. The team comprised of Niall Bayne, Nathan Donald, Maya Hossain, Tia Jihan, Finlay McCrone, Ethan Midgley and Bella Stephenson and they were mentored by The Leonardo Company (www.uk.leonardocompany.com). They showed outstanding initiative and self-motivation investigating dye-sensitized solar cells, building a model of the school using the school laser cutter, a 3D printed model Maglev train and research into waste, transport, vertical farming, hydroponics and renewable sources of energy.
They were given high praise from the judges, teachers and students from across Edinburgh over their enthusiasm for their project, their knowledge and understanding and their display and presentation. The team thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are already looking for a new challenge!
