At St. Thomas we believe in celebrating culture and diversity. The Modern Languages Department’s Mandarin Club (held every Monday lunch time and led by Mr. Montenegro) has worked extremely hard to put together a very enriching experience for our students and the Dalry P7s. The day began with the procession of a Chinese dragon around the school which was followed by a display of all things Chinese in the main hall. Finally the Dalry P7s sang some songs for other pupils which they were taught by the Scottish Opera Society.
“What I loved most was seeing one of our Chinese children walk down the corridor and just gently touch the decorations hanging from the roof – there was something of a connection there and I think it is fantastic that we were given the opportunity to celebrate such a beautiful culture with our young people.”
St. Thomas’ Chinese New Year celebrations also got ‘picture of the day’ in the Evening News.
Many thanks to Mr. Montenegro, The Mandarin Club and all who took part in making the day such a great success.
